Residential refurbishment and extension project to an existing end of terrace mews house in Sandycove. The existing building had attractive stone external walls and a slate roof, but very little internal fabric remaining, so the design focused on retaining the character of the original shell while creating a contemporary family home.
The proposal included refurbishment of the existing two storey mews house, a new single storey rear extension, a central courtyard, green roofs and associated landscaping/site works.
The design had to respond carefully to the constrained mews setting, with several neighbouring properties close to the site. Natural light, privacy, external space and parking were key considerations in developing the layout.
