House Retrofit & Extension

Residential remodelling and extension project to an existing 1960s bungalow in Stillorgan. The project began as a replacement dwelling proposal, with a new contemporary four bedroom house designed for the site. Following refusal of the first planning application and appeal, the design strategy was revised to retain, remodel and extend the existing house instead.

The revised scheme removed the existing roof and poorer quality later extensions, while retaining as much of the existing building fabric as possible. A new two storey element, new roof form, dormer windows and rear extension were then developed around the retained structure.

My role included surveying the existing property, preparing sketch design and planning drawings, developing the 3D model, producing visualisations, preparing shadow study material and assisting with appeal and revised planning information. The revised scheme was granted permission and upheld by An Coimisiún Pleanála following third party appeals. The project is due to commence on site shortly.
