Mixed-use redevelopment of Smyth’s Pub Haddington Road, Dublin 4. The project involved the demolition of the existing public house and the construction of a new four storey and part five storey mixed-use building on a tight urban infill site between Haddington Road and Percy Place. The proposal reinstates the public house at basement and ground floor level, with six apartments above arranged in two blocks around a central landscaped courtyard.
The design required a sensitive response to two different urban conditions: a traditional public house frontage to Haddington Road and a more residential scaled frontage to Percy Place. The scheme also had to respond to surrounding apartment buildings, neighbouring residential amenity, overlooking, privacy, streetscape character, and the relationship between the public house and the residential entrance.
Working directly with a Director, I assisted in developing the design, preparing planning drawings and coordinating planning documentation. My role also included producing 3D visualisations and planning photomontages to test and communicate the proposal within its urban context. As the project progressed, I assisted with revised planning information and design amendments, including changes to the Haddington Road facade, setbacks, apartment entrance and external amenity areas.
